I have been commercially involved in the Cheese industry for over 30 years. I have been responsible for both the procurement and sales of specialist and mainstream cheese with large and small businesses and for the positioning of those businesses in the UK market.
My Cheese affair started in 1985 when I cut my Cheese teeth with the then established London based wholesaler the London Cheese Company.
In 1987 I left the business and co-founded what was to turn out to be one of the largest Cheese wholesale businesses in the UK, the Cheese Cellar Company. After 20 years of both organic and acquisitive growth we had created a business to be proud of, experiencing first-hand all that it takes to develop a flourishing food business. T/O £24m. We successfully sold out in 2007 to H&B Foods(now known as Harvey Brockless).
In 2009 I set up another business, Foodinmotion, which offered a bespoke and competitive chilled food transport service into the UK of primarily Italian cheese.
In 2012 I re-entered the Cheese world and oversaw the redevelopment of the commercial offering and re-brand of the Cambridge Food Co into Cheese+. I was responsible for all Sales and Purchasing and the strategic growth and development of the business. When I left in November 2016 its profitability had grown 455% in my 4 year stay.
I have now set up a commercial cheese consultancy business, Cheeselink, to work with other businesses to help develop their Cheese categories.
